National Bureau of Statistics- Organize a nationwide sample survey on population changes in 2024

By mnbbs.net

In a recent announcement, the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that a nationwide sample survey focused on population changes will take place in 2024. This initiative is designed to effectively monitor demographic trends in China, providing crucial data that will inform the country’s economic and social planning, as well as policies related to population management.

The survey will cover both urban and rural regions across selected areas in mainland China. Households included in the study will consist of residents who are citizens of the People’s Republic of China. Each household will be evaluated as a unit, gathering information from both current residents and those registered at the household but temporarily residing elsewhere at the time of the survey.

Participants in the survey can expect to provide information on various aspects such as age, gender, ethnicity, educational background, migration patterns, employment status, marital and fertility rates, as well as mortality and housing conditions. The survey will reference data as of midnight on November 1, 2024, with the actual data collection running from October 10 to November 30, 2024.

Data will be collected through two primary methods: trained enumerators appointed by the government will visit households, or participants can choose to submit their information online. Enumerators will present official identification from statistical authorities at the county level or higher when they visit homes.

Under the Statistics Law of the People’s Republic of China, participants are legally required to provide truthful, accurate, and complete information for the survey. Strict confidentiality measures will be enforced to protect personal data by the statistical agencies and their staff.

Moreover, any misconduct by local governments, departments, or survey personnel will lead to legal accountability. Participants who obstruct the survey process may also face penalties from law enforcement.

The National Bureau of Statistics urges all segments of society, particularly the selected households, to actively engage and cooperate with the 2024 population change sample survey initiative.
