Kate’s first public event after chemotherapy, William holding hands, speed dating_1
On October 10, following her cancer treatment, Catherine, Princess of Wales, made her first public appearance alongside Prince William. Kensington Palace announced that the couple visited the small town of Southport in northwest England to show their support for the local community and to listen to how residents have come together in response to a tragic knife attack that occurred in July.
According to the National Newspaper Association, Catherine’s participation in the event was a last-minute decision. This outing marked her first official engagement after completing chemotherapy. Observers noted Prince William’s attentive care for Catherine, as he was seen holding her hand in public—a rare display of affection. Their coordinated outfits also reflected a couple’s unity.
The visit came after a knife attack at a children’s dance event on July 29, which resulted in the deaths of three children, along with injuries to eight others and two adults. A statement from the couple’s office indicated that they wanted to listen to the community’s experiences in coping with the incident and its impact on their mental health. They also met with emergency responders who assisted during the crisis.
Earlier, Catherine met with the families of the victims, expressing gratitude to the responders by sharing, “The families are extremely thankful for the support you provided that day.”
Attendees at the event exhibited strong emotions, prompting Catherine to offer hugs away from the cameras. William also took a moment to commend the rescuers, stating, “You’re all heroes. Please make sure to take care of yourselves; take your time, and don’t rush back to work.”
The National Newspaper Association reported that the couple spent about half an hour with three families, leading to a 45-minute delay in their arrival at the community center.
