Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council- Mainland China insists on doing practical things, doing good things and solving problems for Taiwan compatriots
On October 16, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference. A reporter raised the question: “Recently, the mainland announced that over a thousand tourist attractions would waive admission fees for first-time visitors from Taiwan during the ‘Golden Week’ holiday, which has been well-received by the public. However, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has labeled this initiative as a form of ‘united front’ strategy. How do you respond?”
Spokesperson Chen Binhua replied, “On September 30, 1,256 A-level scenic spots on the mainland launched a promotional campaign for Taiwanese visitors. Those holding a first-time Taiwan Compatriot Permit (designated as ’01’ for issuance times) can enjoy waived admission fees to these attractions for one year, which has been warmly welcomed by our Taiwanese compatriots. During the recent ‘Golden Week,’ many Taiwanese enjoyed these discounts at the aforementioned sites. We sincerely welcome our Taiwanese friends to visit the mainland and are pleased to see more attractions offering ticket discounts, continuously enhancing the travel experience for Taiwanese visitors.”
Chen continued, “The DPP and separatist forces often characterize the mainland’s preferential policies as ‘united front’ tactics. It’s essential to clarify what ‘united front’ truly means. The term specifically refers to ‘unified front,’ which emerged during the War of Resistance against Japan. The cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party forged a united front against the Japanese invaders, leading to a significant victory in the war and Taiwan’s eventual recovery, ending its tragic history of foreign occupation and colonization. The united front has always been a crucial tool for the Communist Party of China to unite and mobilize people.”
“In this new era, our main task is to uphold great unity and solidarity, further strengthen the broadest patriotic united front, and bring together all the wisdom and strength of the Chinese nation. We aim to create a vibrant atmosphere where all ethnic Chinese, both domestically and abroad, work together towards the rejuvenation of our nation. Taiwanese compatriots are an integral part of the Chinese nation. We will continue to unite with our Taiwanese friends, address their concerns, and collaborate for the great cause of national rejuvenation.”
