US secret documents related to Israel’s plan to retaliate against Iran leaked FBI- Investigation is ongoing_1
During a recent press briefing, White House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby revealed that it is currently unclear whether a leaked document originated from an insider or if it was the result of a hacking incident. Reports suggest that the document from the U.S. intelligence community outlines a potential large-scale retaliatory attack by Israel against Iran. In response, the FBI announced on October 22 that it is investigating the leak.
The document reportedly comes after Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1, in retaliation for the killings of senior officials from Hamas and Hezbollah. Iranian forces are now preparing for potential repercussions from Israel.
Last week, an account named “Middle East Spectator” on the messaging platform Telegram published the classified document, which suggested that Israel might be gearing up for an attack, although it did not specify any actual targets.
In its statement, the FBI mentioned that it is working closely with the Department of Defense and other intelligence partners in this investigation.
Kirby told reporters, “We can’t confirm how these documents made their way into the public domain,” adding that such leaks of classified information are “unacceptable.”
When asked last week if President Biden was aware of when and how Israel would respond to the missile attacks from Iran, Biden replied affirmatively, “Yes, yes.”
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump seized the opportunity to characterize the leak as a prime example of government incompetence. According to reports, Trump exaggerated the contents of the leaked document, stating, “They leaked all the information regarding how Israel will operate and where they will go.”
He added, “Can you imagine someone doing this? I guess it could be the enemy, maybe even an enemy from within.” Reports note that Trump applied a familiar strategy of framing his political opponents, a tactic he often employs in his campaign rallies.
