Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answers reporters’ questions on the WTO disputes between China and the EU regarding trade remedy measures

**Interviewer:** There are reports indicating that the EU intends to file a strong complaint with the WTO concerning China’s anti-dumping measures on brandy imports. At the same time, we understand that China has initiated a lawsuit against the EU related to anti-subsidy measures on electric vehicles. How do you view this situation?

**Spokesperson:** The anti-dumping measures that China has imposed on imported brandy from the EU are legitimate trade remedy actions that respond to requests from our domestic industry. We are fully compliant with WTO regulations in this respect.

On the other hand, the EU’s investigation into subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles did not originate from any request from the industry, and there’s significant opposition to this measure from several EU member states and their industries. The EU’s actions lack factual and legal justification, clearly contravening WTO guidelines. In essence, they represent a form of trade protectionism disguised as legitimate trade remedies.

To protect the legitimate rights and interests of our electric vehicle sector, China has formally protested to the WTO and has submitted the relevant anti-subsidy measures for dispute resolution.

China firmly opposes the misuse of trade remedy measures and urges the EU to rectify its misguided actions. It’s essential for both sides to work together to maintain a healthy trade relationship between China and the EU.
