Passengers exceeded 2 billion, mobile China is full of vitality
During an interview about the recent travel trends in China during the National Day holiday, officials from the Ministry of Transport provided some fascinating insights. They reported that from October 1 to 7, the total number of interregional trips reached an astonishing 2.003 billion, reflecting a daily increase of 3.9% compared to last year. Several transportation metrics even set new records.
The railway system, in particular, played a crucial role, with daily passenger numbers exceeding 17 million throughout the holiday. On October 1 alone, a peak of 21.448 million passengers was recorded, marking a historic high. The launch of new high-speed rail lines, such as the Bao-Yin segment from Huinong to Yinchuan and Yizhuang station’s opening on the Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway, has significantly enhanced the rail network, making it more dense and accessible for holiday travelers.
Moreover, road travel also saw tremendous activity, with nearly 1.6 billion journeys, accounting for 80% of all interregional movement. The airline industry contributed as well, with a total of 16.096 million air passengers over the holiday, averaging about 2.299 million daily—an impressive 11.1% increase from last year. This integrated transportation system proved highly efficient and safe, effectively supporting the surge in holiday travel demand and highlighting the vibrancy of China during this festive period.
