Australian couple logs onto Facebook to retrieve video of their wedding 57 years ago

Aileen Turnbull and her husband Bill have been happily married for 57 years. Recently, the couple faced an unexpected twist of fate when they discovered their long-lost wedding video through Facebook. At 77 years old, Aileen was casually scrolling through her social media when she stumbled upon a familiar wedding photo of herself and Bill, leading to a delightful surprise: “This is our wedding photo!” she exclaimed.

According to the New York Post, Aileen and Bill tied the knot in 1967 in Scotland. After their wedding, they borrowed a projector so they could relive the moment when they walked out of the church together. However, after viewing the film, they forgot to take the film reel out, and that was the last time they ever saw it.

Fast forward several decades, and Aileen’s casual Facebook browsing led her to the wedding picture. The image had been shared by Terry Cheyne, a man from Scotland whose uncle was the one who lent the projector to Aileen and Bill all those years ago. Terry revealed that the film had been stored at his uncle’s house for a long time. When his uncle moved, Terry decided to retrieve it and convert the footage to DVD. To his surprise, the first video he salvaged turned out to be a stranger’s wedding ceremony—a mysterious film he watched multiple times without recognizing anyone in the footage.

Despite recognizing the church where the ceremony took place, Terry couldn’t identify the people on screen. The serendipitous reunion with Aileen and Bill was facilitated by Facebook, confirming their wildest hopes. Aileen was overwhelmed with emotion, saying it was incredible to see her parents again, who were still alive in the film, while Bill even caught a glimpse of his grandfather who lived to be 100.

The couple treasures this precious video not only for the memories it revisits but as a testament to their enduring love, proving that even as time passes, their bond remains as strong as ever.
