On October 24, a reporter from China News Service in Hefei learned from the Anhui Provincial Public Security System that police in the region are actively working to create a top-tier, rule-of-law business environment. This includes the establishment of a standardized reporting center for business-related crimes, facilitating a “one-stop” handling process for such cases.

Recently, the Hi-Tech Division of the Hefei Public Security Bureau solved a case of embezzlement involving a local technology firm. The company reported that Chen, an employee stationed at an out-of-province office, had taken advantage of his position to embezzle more than one million yuan in company assets. Upon receiving the report, the bureau promptly opened an investigation and successfully apprehended the suspect.

Officer Wei Yang, who was involved in the case, explained that Chen was responsible for the smart vehicle business in the Southwest region. Starting in 2022, he exploited his position to procure equipment and goods at inflated prices from suppliers he controlled, falsely claiming they were designated by business partners. Chen also collaborated with relatives and friends to set up multiple companies. After acquiring insider knowledge of the company’s procurement plans, he orchestrated the bidding process to favor his own businesses, subcontracting projects at unreasonably low rates which slowed down progress and ultimately hampered overall project timelines.

The investigation revealed that Chen embezzled over 2 million yuan through these methods. Following discussions with law enforcement, he has since returned 800,000 yuan of the misappropriated funds. Chen is currently under criminal detention, and the case is still under further investigation.

Since the introduction of the “30 Measures for Anhui Provincial Public Security to Support Enterprises and Facilitate High-Quality Economic Development,” the province has intensified its crackdown on crimes related to enterprises, ensuring rapid investigation and resolution to protect businesses and key projects. Additionally, efforts have been made to strengthen internal crime prevention measures within companies, empowering them to bolster their defenses against occupational fraud.
