Recently, multiple departments have implemented a comprehensive package of policies aimed at boosting consumption while enhancing people’s livelihoods. These initiatives focus on nurturing new consumption models and executing actions to invigorate spending. As part of the “Consumption Promotion Year,” national commerce departments have adopted a dual approach of “policies + activities.” This includes rolling out a series of measures to expand domestic demand and stimulate consumption, alongside organizing a variety of promotional events that foster innovation in consumption scenarios and business formats, gradually enhancing market vitality.
At a restaurant in Chongqing’s Jiefangbei commercial district, the dining area was packed. The restaurant manager shared, “Dishes like goji berry oxtail soup and premium beef, which are local specialties, have attracted many customers. We sell hundreds of these dishes every day.”
In late September, Chongqing launched the “Yuwai 360 Bowls” initiative, focusing on core commercial areas, unique streets, and tourist attractions. The goal is to introduce 360 different local delicacies into these spaces, effectively releasing the potential for dining consumption.
Similarly, Guangzhou is leveraging its culinary offerings to boost spending. The Canton Fair has drawn numerous international business visitors, and many hotels have set up exhibitions showcasing Guangzhou’s food culture in their lobbies. Miniature displays of popular food streets and old menus have ignited excitement among foreign merchants.
As October rolled in, cities across the country began distributing a new round of consumption vouchers. In Shanghai, vouchers covering various sectors, such as dining, accommodation, movies, and sports, were released in batches. Meanwhile, Hubei is targeting younger consumers with a substantial 50 million yuan allocation for vouchers on 3C digital products, including mobile phones and digital cameras, with discounts of up to 1,000 yuan available.
Deng Yujie, the head of the digital department at a commercial center in Wuhan, Hubei, commented, “Since launching the 3C digital consumption vouchers on October 16, we’ve seen a remarkable increase in sales—over 100% growth in mobile phone sales and more than 60% for digital cameras and Bluetooth headphones compared to last year.”
Du Peng, the head of the Marketing Management Department at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, noted, “The leverage effect of consumption vouchers varies by category. For most products, it’s about 1:3, but for 3C products, it can reach 1:10.”
Data shows that Hubei province has issued 120 million yuan in digital consumption vouchers this year, resulting in over 800 million yuan in consumer spending, with a total plan to distribute 150 million yuan worth of these vouchers throughout the year.
