North Korea’s trash balloon crashes into South Korea’s presidential palace, containing leaflets criticizing Yoon Seok-yue and the first lady_1
Recently, North Korea has resumed its practice of sending “garbage balloons” over to South Korea. On October 24, the South Korean presidential office reported that one of these balloons landed near the presidential residence, carrying leaflets that criticized President Yoon Suk-yeol and First Lady Kim Keon-hee. Fortunately, no hazardous materials were detected in the debris.
According to Yonhap News, the South Korean military identified multiple balloons launched from North Korea in the early hours of October 24. There are concerns that these balloons could drift towards the capital region and Gangwon Province.
The Presidential Security Service (PSS) reported that one of the balloons filled with trash exploded in the air, scattering fragments around the Blue House. Thankfully, no dangerous substances were found, and authorities are currently working with the military to monitor the situation.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first incident of this nature; in July of this year, the South Korean presidential office and the Ministry of Defense also reported similar occurrences involving North Korean garbage balloons. In those cases, there were no injuries and no hazardous materials were discovered.
