Recently, the highly anticipated 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference (WICV) and China International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicles Exhibition were successfully held at the Beijing Beiren Yichuang International Convention and Exhibition Center. Organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Transport, and the Beijing Municipal Government, the event focused on the theme “Collaborating to Advance Towards the Future: Sharing New Opportunities for the Development of Intelligent Connected Vehicles.” It brought together globally renowned experts, scholars, and representatives from government agencies, industry organizations, and leading companies.

The International Star Wireless Short-Range Communication Alliance, a key player in empowering intelligent connected vehicles, not only hosted a forum on innovative wireless communication applications for intelligent connected vehicles during the conference but also showcased their presence at the exhibition, garnering significant attention and positive feedback.

On the morning of October 19, the International Star Alliance hosted the third side forum of the WICV, focusing on the latest developments and future trends in wireless communication technologies for intelligent connected vehicles. This initiative aimed to promote technological innovation and industrial upgrades, attracting numerous experts, scholars, and industry representatives to attend.

The forum was moderated by Secretary-General of the International Star Alliance, Zeng Guosong, with Chen Xu, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, delivering the opening remarks. Ten speakers from various organizations, including the Ministry of Transport, China Telecom International Company, Smart Vehicle Industry Ecological Alliance, Roland Berger, Japan’s Azapa Co., Ltd., Changan Automobile, Seres, Shanghai HiSilicon, and YINKEY Technology, presented insightful talks.

Zeng Guosong emphasized that the Star wireless short-range communication technology is vital for building a digital world based on intelligent connectivity. With the rapid development of new scenarios and applications within sectors like smart vehicles, smart terminals, smart homes, and smart manufacturing, there’s a burgeoning market space for wireless short-range communication. As a new generation of short-range communication technology standards, Star technology meets the demands of intelligent new scenarios with low latency, high reliability, high concurrency, accurate synchronization, anti-interference capabilities, and intelligent features that outpace current mainstream standards.

Du Wenping, General Manager of Seres Automotive’s Intelligent Ecosystem Platform, noted the broad range of applications for Star technology in vehicles, suggesting the potential to replace traditional wired methods in the long term, eliminating the need for LDS and replacing in-car Ethernet systems. He pointed to the digital car key as a prime example of cost reduction and efficiency, successfully addressing issues with low power consumption and accurate positioning, while also offering a user experience comparable to UWB, thus avoiding associated costs.

The speakers engaged in comprehensive discussions, utilizing vivid case studies and the latest data to illustrate the role of wireless communication technology in intelligent connected vehicles, providing attendees with valuable industry insights and cutting-edge information.

Among the reports presented were topics like “Research on Trends in In-Vehicle 360-degree Surround Wireless Technology,” “Creating a New Ecosystem for Star Digital Car Keys,” and “Product Innovation and Application of Digital Keys,” which received enthusiastic responses. The low latency, high speed, precise synchronization, and accurate positioning of Star technology promise expansive applications in systems like 360-degree surround view and digital keys.

After the forum, attendees expressed that the discussions were rich in content and highly informative. They not only gained insights into the latest developments and future trends in wireless communication technology for intelligent connected vehicles but also networked with numerous industry experts, expanding their connections and resources. Many indicated their intent to continue following the developments of the International Star Alliance and expressed hopes for further collaboration and exchanges.

The parallel event, the “China International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicles Exhibition,” was a crucial component of the WICV, attracting top global companies and organizations showcasing their latest technological achievements and innovative applications.

As a major participant in the exhibition, the International Star Alliance collaborated with over 20 member units, including Baidu Vehicle Networking, YINKEY Technology, Eagledrive Technology, YF Technology, and Huawei, displaying over 40 advancements and innovations within the field of wireless communication for intelligent connected vehicles.

On the second day of the exhibition, Wan Lei, Vice Chairman of the International Star Alliance, provided detailed insights into the breakthroughs achieved in Star technology concerning specific exhibits like 360-degree surround view systems and digital car keys.

Throughout the exhibition, industry professionals exhibited great interest in practical applications of Star’s wireless communication solutions, engaging in in-depth discussions on their respective fields’ application prospects.

A significant achievement was the launch of the “Star Digital Car Key Industry Initiative” on October 18, aimed at promoting the standardization and industrialization of digital key technology, accelerating the smart transition of the automotive sector. This initiative was spearheaded by members of the International Star Alliance’s Smart Vehicle Industry Promotion Working Group.

The launch event brought together nearly 40 representatives from automotive manufacturers, industry organizations, and research institutes nationwide, marking a pivotal moment in the industry. Hosted by Gao Hong, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Star Alliance, the opening address was delivered by Secretary-General Zeng Guosong, followed by a detailed introduction of the initiative by QIn Kongjian, Chief Expert at the China Automotive Technology Research Center Co., Ltd.

QIn highlighted the rapid growth of the digital key market in China over the past three years, with an annual increase of over 10 percentage points in adoption rates, projecting an 80% adoption rate for digital car keys by 2030. He noted that while the rapid advancement of digital keys presents both opportunities and challenges, traditional short-range connection technologies harbor issues like inaccurate distance and positioning, which can lead to connection failures and security risks. Additionally, he identified substantial cost reduction opportunities within existing technical solutions.

The “Star Digital Car Key Industry Initiative” underscores digital keys as a crucial link between vehicles and users, emphasizing that Star technology’s low latency interaction, high precision positioning, and secure transmission make it an ideal choice for enhancing vehicle intelligence and meeting user demands.

During the initiative’s launch, prominent figures, including Wan Lei, Zeng Guosong, QIn Kongjian, She Jianqiang from Dongfeng Motor Group, Li Zengwen from Changan Automobile, Du Wenping from Seres, Huang Dianhui from BAIC R&D, and Wu Jun from Shanghai HiSilicon, collectively announced the initiative on behalf of all members of the digital car key SIG.
