-2024 Beijing Dance Academy Performance Season- kicks off with over 100 performances featuring star dancers

From October 2024 to January 2025, the “2024 Beijing Dance Academy Performance Season” will showcase over 50 performances, featuring more than 30 new creations across more than a dozen renowned theaters both in and outside of Beijing. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience a rich variety of dance styles including classical dance, folk dances, ballet, international standard dance, modern dance, and musical theater, all while appreciating the captivating art of dance.

The performance season will present a diverse array of productions, including original large-scale works, specialized showcases, teaching outcomes, graduation performances, and even online live streams. Attendees can look forward to the academy’s recent original pieces such as “Singing a Mountain Song for the Party,” “Spring in Yangjialing,” “April Days on Earth,” “Waving the Banner of Justice,” “Manjianghong,” and “Chenxiang,” along with a series dedicated to showcasing the teaching achievements comprised of 20 works from various departments and dance styles.

A special “Graduation Season Performance Series” is also set to feature 10 major graduation pieces from different departments. Broadway musical director Joey McKneely will personally direct the academy’s version of the musical “Ah! Drum Ridge,” celebrating the friendship between the Chinese and American people. Vladimir Malakhov, known as the “Century Dancer,” will gather top dancers from leading national ballet companies to present a gala performance titled “Dancing with the Stars.” This will include a revival of his classic work “The Seasons” and a collaboration with “Ballet Queen” Diana Vishneva in the iconic piece “The Old Man and Me.”

The performance season has popular dancers Wang Yabin and Ma Jiaolong as its ambassadors, and it features many outstanding performers throughout the presentations. Within the “International Masterworks Performance Series,” the “Dancing with the Stars” ballet gala will showcase top domestic dancers like Wang Zhanfeng and Wu Husheng. As part of the “Exquisite Production Series,” the Beijing Dance Academy’s Youth Dance Troupe will deliver a star-studded performance titled “Dancing with the Classics.” Additionally, the “Emerging Choreographers Showcase” will highlight personal projects from young dancers, supported by the academy, including works by Wang Zihan, Wang Yabin, Liu Yan, Hu Yuting, and Hua Xiaoyi.

At the recent opening ceremony, Dean Xu Rui of the Beijing Dance Academy expressed hopes that this platform will foster domestic and international exchanges in dance, inspire innovation and creative thinking, and provide young dance artists with a stage to showcase their talents and challenge themselves, ultimately nurturing the next generation of dance stars.

The “2024 Beijing Dance Academy Performance Season” is supported by the China Dancers Association, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and is organized by the Beijing Dance Academy.
