By mnbbs.net

On October 25, a helicopter tragically crashed while en route to an offshore oil production facility in Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals, according to reports by Agence France-Presse.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) issued a statement via social media, clarifying that the helicopter, which was leased by the company, took off from the southern city of Port Harcourt. It lost contact around 11:22 AM as it was heading to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit.

According to NNPC, there were a total of eight people on board the helicopter, comprising six passengers and two crew members. So far, three bodies have been recovered, and search and rescue operations are still underway.

The Nigerian Ministry of Aviation released a statement indicating that no emergency locator beacon signals had been received from the aircraft. The ministry assured that all available resources have been deployed to assist in locating and rescuing those involved.

Reuters reports that Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, has a history of poor aviation safety records, though there have been improvements in recent years.
