On October 15, reports emerged from various media outlets about the recent appearance of Ismail Qaani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, in Tehran. He was attending a funeral for a high-ranking member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to The Jerusalem Post and Australia’s ABC News, footage aired on Iranian state television shows Qaani publicly attending the funeral for General Nilforushan of the IRGC.

The reports also detail the circumstances surrounding the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who passed away during an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on September 27. Earlier this month, Israel claimed it had also killed Hashem Safieddine, who was believed to be a potential successor to Nasrallah, leading to speculation about Qaani’s whereabouts. Sources indicate that Qaani was one of the targets in Israel’s attacks in Lebanon.

In addition, British Sky News and Middle East Eye previously reported that Qaani was under investigation in Iran, allegedly suffering a heart attack during an interrogation.

In response to these reports, IRGC commander Ibrahim Jafari stated last week that Qaani is “in good health” and is expected to receive a medal in the future.

It’s important to note that Qaani took over as the head of the Quds Force after the U.S. airstrike that killed the former commander, Qasem Soleimani, near Baghdad International Airport in January 2020.
