On the morning of October 11, the inaugural China Broadcast and Television Quality Creation Conference opened in Beijing. The theme of this year’s conference is “Writing a Great Era, Offering Quality Works to the People,” which aims to showcase the fruitful results of quality creation in broadcasting and television, embody the spirit of the times, and promote the broadcasting and television industry to implement the “New Era Quality Project” and achieve high-quality development. This effort seeks to continually enrich the cultural and spiritual lives of the people.

The event is organized by the National Radio and Television Administration and the People’s Government of Beijing, with support from the Beijing Municipal Party Committee’s Publicity Department, the Beijing Broadcasting and Television Bureau, and the Chaoyang District Committee and Government. The conference emphasizes that broadcasting and television professionals should focus on their key responsibilities, cultivate a deep connection with the people, strengthen cultural confidence, adopt a global perspective, and produce more meticulously crafted works.

At the main forum, representatives from various sectors delivered keynote speeches centered around the themes of “More Quality Works, Broader Dissemination, and Better Experiences.” Hou Hongliang, president of the China TV Drama Production Industry Association, articulated the notion that the arts in any era rise and change in response to the times. He emphasized the importance for artists to actively engage with life and the community to truly feel the pulse of the era as a means to cultivate an awareness of quality creation.

Li Lu, who received the Outstanding Director award at the 34th Feitian Awards for the TV series “Human World,” shared his creative methodology. He highlighted the need for the film and television market to meet the diverse viewing needs across different demographics. “I believe every genre should prioritize quality while balancing ideological depth and artistic merit. We must not allow certain genres to become synonymous with low quality, nor let inferior works drive out the good,” he asserted.

Additionally, the conference released the “China Broadcast and Television Multimedia Development Report” and the “2023-2024 Broadcast and Television Big Screen Viewing Data Report,” documenting significant changes in the national broadcasting and television landscape. In recent years, high-quality audio-visual content from China has emerged in abundance, enriching the cultural lives of domestic audiences and gaining recognition and admiration from viewers abroad, contributing significantly to the country’s cultural outreach. The main forum concluded by announcing the results of the 2023 “Audio-Visual China Global Broadcasting” selection for outstanding works, finalists, and exceptional promotional organizations.

Running from October 11 to 13 in Beijing, this conference serves as a multifaceted platform for guiding creativity, theoretical discussion, showcasing excellence, talent development, industry collaboration, and market services. With a rich array of innovative activities, it features a “1+12+9” structure that encompasses all aspects of quality creation in broadcasting and television, including the opening ceremony and main forum, along with 12 parallel forums and 9 supporting events. This comprehensive gathering drew participation from over 1,000 industry organizations and more than 5,000 representatives, invigorating creative momentum and fostering high-quality growth within the broadcasting and television sector.
