Guangzhou plans to establish an “Overseas Chinese Youth Home” to serve young people from the overseas Chinese community at home and abroad
On September 13, the Guangzhou Youth Federation of Overseas Chinese held a ceremony to introduce its new board of directors, with Long Tianxiang stepping in as the newly elected president.
In his inaugural speech, Long highlighted the impressive achievements and varied experiences of overseas Chinese youth across numerous fields. He expressed a strong commitment to the establishment of a “Youth Home for Overseas Chinese” in the city, which aims to offer comprehensive support in education, internships, employment, livelihood, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Long envisions this initiative as a platform for fostering international youth exchange.
“Overseas Chinese youth play a crucial role not only in the nation’s development strategies but also as a driving force for social progress,” Long stated. He intends to strengthen collaboration with youth organizations in Hong Kong and Macau to create a broader network for exchanging ideas and experiences, fostering the growth of Chinese youth in these regions. Furthermore, he aims to build stronger partnerships with youth organizations both domestically and internationally to expand the Federation’s outreach and perspectives.
Long also underscored the importance of organizing impactful international events to enhance the visibility and brand of the “Guangzhou Youth Federation of Overseas Chinese.” He is dedicated to providing overseas Chinese youth with opportunities for international exchange and showcasing their talents in Guangzhou. Additionally, he aims to engage the older generation of overseas Chinese to instill a sense of patriotism and community service, thereby boosting national confidence.
Bian Yong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairman of the Guangzhou Federation of Overseas Chinese, expressed his hope that the new board of directors would take on a leadership role, motivating overseas Chinese youth to actively contribute to the development of Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area. He encouraged the Federation to innovate its activities, tailoring them to the unique characteristics of overseas Chinese youth to attract more exceptional members.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of hearing from members about their needs and expectations, and continuously improving the service system to ensure that every overseas Chinese youth feels a strong sense of belonging and accomplishment within the Federation.
