World Daily- The life of senior citizens begins with more information on financial management and health care_1
On October 19, the World Journal hosted the “2024 Senior Lifestyle Expo” at the Chao Education Center in the Bay Area. This event brought together several prominent speakers and dozens of booths, providing seniors with valuable information on financial management and health care, addressing various challenges in their daily lives, and attracting hundreds of participants.
Li Mingbin, the General Manager of World Journal’s San Francisco office, shared that this is the first time the World Journal has organized the “Senior Lifestyle Expo” in the Bay Area. He clarified that “senior” does not strictly refer to those with gray hair; it broadly encompasses individuals aged 60 and above. This term emphasizes their importance in social, economic, and cultural life, highlighting their vibrant, healthy, and high-quality lifestyle. The senior community not only signifies a shift in age but also represents a new way of living, prioritizing health, activity, and dignity in their golden years.
Li noted that as the population ages, the size and influence of this group continue to grow, and society is increasingly attentive to the needs and welfare of seniors. He emphasized that seniors are not just valuable resources for society but also the backbone of families. It’s essential for everyone to think about and strive toward ensuring they lead fulfilling, healthy lives.
Zhuang Yashu, Director of the Chao Education Center, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, recognizing the World Journal for its ongoing support of the overseas Chinese community by providing essential lifestyle information, mainstream news, and connections to their homeland—serving as a source of spiritual nourishment.
Zhuang described seniors as embarking on a new chapter in life, thanking the World Journal for gathering the necessary information to enrich retirement and launch new life stages during these years.
The Senior Lifestyle Expo featured four key components: medical consultations, financial planning seminars, recreational activities, and mind-body experiences. Many healthcare professionals were on hand offering free consultations and health checks, addressing health concerns for seniors.
Nicole Hung from Van Berg Company spoke about common questions regarding Medicare, alongside insights into new information for 2025. Liang Juanhua, founder and president of CBC Financial, discussed retirement financial planning. Other experts provided specialized talks, including Grace Lee from SCAN Health and Dr. Zhong Wen-Ting, who focused on spinal health.
Nutritionist Xiao Zhiqi offered guidance on healthy eating to prevent osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, manage blood pressure, improve sleep, and maintain brain health. Participants also learned gardening techniques that promote a human-centered approach to cultivation from Wang Qianlong from a local gardening group.
Ms. Tsai, a 89-year-old attendee, found the Alzheimer’s talk incredibly useful. She maintains good health and mobility but wants to understand potential diseases and prevention measures early on rather than waiting until it’s too late.
The Bay Area Mama Classroom had a booth offering traditional Chinese medicine consultations, and attendees could also experience acupuncture treatments.
Matt Chen from Van Berg Company delivered a presentation, further enhancing the informative atmosphere of the event.
