Tibetan medicine experts gathered at the first -Four Medical Classics- International Academic Exchange Conference

On October 18, the first International Academic Exchange Conference on the “Four Medical Classics” was held in Lhasa, organized by the Health Commission of the Tibet Autonomous Region and hosted by the Tibet Autonomous Region Tibetan Medicine Hospital and the Tibet University of Traditional Tibetan Medicine. The two-day event brought together nearly 200 attendees, including international experts in traditional medicine and culture, Chinese medicine masters, renowned practitioners, scholars, educators, and practitioners and students of Tibetan medicine from both within and outside Tibet.

The conference featured a special exhibition focused on the “Four Medical Classics,” as well as keynote speeches and panel discussions.

During the opening ceremony, He Xingmao, Deputy Secretary-General of the Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Government, emphasized the significance of Tibetan medicine as an essential part of traditional Chinese medicine and a cherished treasure of the Chinese nation. He highlighted that the “Four Medical Classics,” regarded as one of the most influential traditional medical texts worldwide, was listed in the “China Archive Document Heritage List” in 2015, included in the “UNESCO Memory of the World Register” Asia-Pacific Region in 2018, and entered the “Memory of the World Register” in 2023. The conference theme, “Inheritance and Innovation Research on the ‘Four Medical Classics’,” aims to explore the academic value of this ancient Tibetan medical classic and to seek ways to better integrate and apply traditional medical wisdom in the context of today’s world.

Chen Junfeng, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, remarked on Tibet’s rich cultural heritage and deep historical roots as the birthplace of Tibetan medicine. He noted that through years of transmission and innovation, Tibetan medicine has developed into a comprehensive and influential system of ethnic medicine that reflects the profound understanding of life and natural laws among the people of the plateau.

At the keynote forum, prominent figures such as Master Zhang Dui, Master Wang Dui, Ram Adhar Yadav, Executive Chairman of the Nepalese Ayurveda Research and Training Center, Mima, Vice President of Tibet University of Traditional Tibetan Medicine, and Yin Ba, Deputy Director of Tibetan Medicine in the Tibet Autonomous Region, delivered speeches centered around the conference themes.
