On October 10-11, the “Sports Science Popularization Tour” made a stop in Xi’an, featuring a series of engaging activities such as a scientific walk along the ancient city wall, public fitness assessments in local parks, sports science education, Olympic champions engaging with students, and health promotion focused on scientific fitness knowledge. These initiatives aimed to bring joy to local residents through physical activity while educating them about healthy exercise practices.

At the Tang City Wall Ruins Park in Xi’an, an informative sports science exhibition was held, showcasing a variety of displays that combined graphics and texts to explain the scientific principles behind sports. This engaging format helped attendees understand the science of exercise better, and a stamping activity encouraged citizens to learn more about sports science.

Adjacent to the park’s ping pong tables, the “National Sport Goes to the Park” event took place, where world champion table tennis player Cao Zhen had a close-up skills exchange with local enthusiasts. “It’s a great honor to play table tennis with friends from the community,” Cao Zhen remarked. “The community’s fitness facilities and venues are continually improving, and it’s heartening to see so many table tennis fans around. I hope these public activities strengthen our connections and skills.”

Meanwhile, at Xi’an High-tech Zone First Primary School, Chinese women’s volleyball star Zhao Ruijie shared her growth story with students and engaged them in volleyball activities. “Sports play a crucial role in school education,” she said. “The benefits of sports for children’s growth are manifold. I hope today’s activities help the kids experience the power of sports and inspire them to embrace the spirit of athletics through direct interaction.”

According to Feng Qiang, the deputy director of the National Sports General Administration’s Sports Science Research Institute’s Center for National Physical Fitness and Scientific Fitness Research, the event coincided with the second China-ASEAN International Academic Conference on National Physical Fitness and Health Promotion. This gathering invited representatives from international organizations and ASEAN countries to participate in the Sports Science Popularization Tour, fostering exchange and collaboration to explore better forms of sports science education.

The event was organized by the Science and Education Department of the National Sports General Administration, with support from the National Sports General Administration’s Sports Science Research Institute, the Chinese Sports Science Society, Xi’an Sports University, and the Shaanxi Sports Science Research Institute.
