“Green” dances gracefully in the mountains and waters of Zhangjiajie, bringing tourists new cultural and tourism experiences
On October 12th, a unique performance that blended excerpts from the dance drama “Only This Green” and the musical poetry piece “Rivers and Mountains Compete in Beauty” took place in Zhangjiajie, Hunan. This event featured two shows and provided audiences with a fresh way to experience the breathtaking landscape of Zhangjiajie.
Dancers, adorned in flowing gowns and impressive hairstyles, gracefully moved among the stunning peaks and clear waters, bringing the enchanting scenery from “Only This Green” to life within Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. This collaboration between the China Oriental Performing Arts Group, a national-level art troupe, and the national forest park showcased the elegance of Song Dynasty aesthetics, harmonizing traditional charm amidst the unique geographical wonders of Wulingyuan, characterized by its thousands of peaks and abundant waters.
During the performance, the audience witnessed a captivating blend of stage artistry and natural beauty. A bright moon illuminated the “Dayong” landscape, as traditional Chinese aesthetic concepts merged deeply with modern interpretations. The artistic brilliance illuminated the real mountain and water scenery, and within this environment, the dance set to traditional music offered a fresh interpretation of the “Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains” concept.
In addition to the classic dance segments from “Only This Green,” the audience also enjoyed the musical poetry performance “Rivers and Mountains Compete in Beauty.” This piece combined traditional ethnic instruments with electronic music, incorporating classic works such as “High Mountains and Flowing Water,” “Fisherman’s Song at Dusk,” “Three Variations on Plum Blossoms,” “Sunset Flute and Drum,” and “Birdsong in the Empty Mountains.” By weaving together painting, calligraphy, and abstract dance, the performance brought to life the grandeur of intertwining mountains and rivers, infusing deep and serene artistic resonance into the scenes.
Zhang Chong, the director of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area and the National Forest Park Management Bureau, commented, “Traveling alongside the performance has become a new trend in cultural tourism consumption. Transitioning from scenic tours to immersive cultural experiences represents an innovative and enriching development model for tourism.” He emphasized that Zhangjiajie aims to integrate local landscape features, ancient Chinese cultural elements, and innovative tourism concepts to offer visitors a unique cultural experience and enjoyment through rich cultural offerings.
The event was organized by the Management Bureau of Wulingyuan Scenic Area and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, with execution by Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area Tourism Investment Co., Ltd.
