On October 5, the qualifying rounds for the 2024 F1H2O World Championship wrapped up in Shanghai, featuring a fierce contest for pole position. Rusdi Wyatt from the Sharjah team clocked the fastest lap at an impressive 43.48 seconds, securing an ideal starting spot for the race on October 6. Close behind, Jonas Anderson from the Vietnam team claimed second place, while Eric Stark from the Vittori team completed the top three.

Dubbed the “supersonic fighter jets” of the water, F1H2O powerboats are known for their astonishing acceleration, reaching speeds of 0 to 100 km/h in just three seconds and topping out at a blistering 266 km/h. Fans of the sport revel in its electrifying atmosphere, characterized by high-speed boat duels, audacious overtakes on sharp turns, and strategic maneuvers at pivotal moments, all contributing to an adrenaline-pumping experience.

Due to challenging weather conditions and the state of the water surface, only one qualifying round was held during this event. The Tianrong F1H2O team faced difficulties; their star driver, Peter Morin, managed to secure only seventh place due to engine troubles, while his teammate Brent Dilard qualified in thirteenth.

The outcomes of the qualifying rounds have added an exciting twist to the fight for the pole position trophy this year. Jonas Anderson has previously secured three pole position trophies in the last four years. As it stands, Rusdi Wyatt leads the standings with 61 points, just ahead of Jonas Anderson at 59 points, and Eric Stark closely following with 54 points. It remains to be seen whether Anderson can maintain his title as pole position champion this season.

Looking forward to the main event on October 6, the F1H2O China Grand Prix is set to be a thrilling contest. The Tianrong team, competing in front of their home crowd, is eager to make it to the podium. Having shown consistent performances in the last three races—where Morin finished third in Vietnam and second in Italy—the team is keen to bounce back. Team leader Chen Huanming has expressed his confidence in replacing Morin’s engine to ensure peak performance, with a goal of delivering an unforgettable show for the people of Shanghai.
