Anhui’s automobile export volume ranked first in the country in the first three quarters of this year
On October 21, at a press conference held by the Anhui Provincial Government Information Office, Vice Director Jiang Kaiyuan of the Hefei Customs shared some impressive statistics about Anhui’s foreign trade in the first three quarters of 2023. He reported that the province’s total import and export value for goods has exceeded 600 billion yuan for the first time, reaching 628.27 billion yuan, marking a 6.3% year-on-year increase—one percentage point higher than the national average. This places Anhui first among Central China provinces, second in the Midwest, and ninth nationwide.
Jiang highlighted that various business entities remain active, particularly private enterprises, which accounted for more than half of the activity. In the first three quarters, private companies in Anhui achieved an import and export total of 314.93 billion yuan, reflecting a growth of 4.8% and representing 50.1% of the province’s total trade.
He also noted that trade with major partners continues to flourish. In the same period, Anhui’s trade with its top three partners—the European Union, ASEAN, and the United States—reached 84.65 billion yuan, 72.08 billion yuan, and 71.32 billion yuan respectively, with increases of 7.7%, 4.1%, and 7.4%.
Furthermore, Jiang pointed out that the structure of exported products is continually being optimized, with a notable surge in automobile exports. In the first three quarters, Anhui shipped 681,100 vehicles abroad, a remarkable increase of 29.5%, leading the nation in export volume. Exports of laptops and home appliances also saw significant increases, reaching 31.69 billion yuan and 25.95 billion yuan respectively, growing by 25.6% and 11.9%.
To foster the integrated and cluster development of strategic emerging industries and expand international markets, Anhui has implemented 18 measures aimed at enhancing the quality and stability of its foreign trade. Additionally, they have developed 20 supportive initiatives to bolster the integrated circuit industry and collaborated with customs in the Yangtze River Delta to launch 13 measures to support regional productivity.
Jiang emphasized that in response to pain points in the development of strategic emerging industries, the province is simplifying tax exemption processes and piloting a new model for the “Tax Exemption Notification” to streamline operations. The first three quarters of 2023 saw significant growth in the exports of integrated circuits, lithium batteries, electric vehicles, and LCD panels, with increases of 9.6%, 7%, 272.2%, and 44.7% respectively.
